The first time I visited Colorado Springs, I was 18 and was only able to see Garden of the Gods from the roads we were traveling on. It’s hard to believe it was 25 years ago until I think about how different things were in those days. I guess I can put that previous sentence on the list of things I never thought I would say. Anyway, Garden of the Gods is a cluster of red rock formations on the outskirts of north west side Colorado Springs and south east side of Manitou Springs.
When I left, I regretted not exploring Garden of the Gods while I was there. When I returned at the age of 32, it was one of the first places I visited. It’s beautiful no matter what season it is. Entrance to the park is free. You can experience it in several different ways, the website has options to schedule tours by jeep, segway, bike, or horseback. There are also several hiking trails. If you want souvenirs, lunch, or delicious fudge; I recommend stopping by the Trading Post before or after your adventure through the park.
Garden of the Gods became one of my favorite places to photograph. Whether it was the beautiful red rocks covered in the snow of winter, the rainy days of spring, the bright greens of summer set against background of red rocks and blue sky, or those captivating fall sunrises; it always seemed as though it was requesting to be photographed. I, of course, was always more than happy to accept the opportunity as often as I was able.
Whether entering through the west entrance near the Kissing Camels or the east entrance around the Balanced Rock, there are plenty of wonderful sights to stop and take in at Garden of the Gods during your trip to Colorado Springs. Let your wanderlust be quenched by its natural charm.
